Guidelines for Using Assets in Your Item

Assets are any components that you include within your item on CodesJungle. When creating products such as codes, plugins, or themes, you may wish to enhance your item with assets you didn't create yourself. Here, we’ll cover what assets you can use and key intellectual property considerations.

For instance, if you're creating a WordPress theme for a travel agency, you might populate your demo with travel-related images to show customers how their end product could look. In this case, the WordPress theme is your item, while the images used in the demo are your assets.

It’s essential to note that different rules apply based on how and where assets are used in your items. As a general rule, include only assets you own or have proper licenses to use commercially. This applies to both item previews and downloadable assets that are part of the item purchased by customers.

Rules for Asset Use

Use Only Licensed Assets:

  • Always ensure that any assets used in your items are either your own or are properly licensed for commercial use.

Assets in Item Download:

  • Assets included within the downloadable ZIP file of your item should have an appropriate redistribution license. This means that you must have the legal rights to distribute the asset to customers who purchase your item.

Assets in Item Previews:

  • Assets used solely for preview purposes (i.e., not included in the item download) should also be licensed for commercial use. For previews, a redistribution license isn’t necessary, but a commercial use license is required.
  • You may use assets you’ve personally licensed or purchased, but these should be marked as preview-only and clearly indicated in the item description as not included in the final download.

Creating Original Content:

  • If you create assets like photos for your item, obtain any necessary model releases or permissions from individuals depicted.

What is Prohibited?

No Unlicensed Assets:

  • Never include assets you don’t have the proper licenses for, whether in previews or item downloads.

No Reselling of Other Items as Your Own:

  • You cannot repackage another CodesJungle item or open-source work as your own without significant additions or customization.

No Watermarked Assets from External Sites:

  • Avoid using watermarked assets from external sites in your item previews or downloads.

No Photos of Famous Individuals:

  • Photos of celebrities, athletes, or other public figures cannot be used in items or previews, as this is considered commercial use. Such images are only permitted in editorial contexts, like news or blog sites.

Avoid Misleading Licensing Terms:

  • Always review the terms of any asset license to ensure that you have the right to use it commercially and, if applicable, to redistribute it.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can ensure that your item on CodesJungle is fully compliant and that your customers can use your product confidently and legally. Thank you for your dedication to upholding a high standard of quality and integrity on our platform.
